Mystery surrounds death of top jockey aged just 35 as sport is thrown into mourning
The racing world has been thrown into mourning with news of the death of highly respected New Zealand jockey Johnathan Parkes at the age of just 35. The champion jockey rode more than 1000 winners in New Zealand, including 62 black type races and 12 at Group One level. The Kiwi star, who reportedly passed away on Friday night, last rode at Hastings on September 7. The racing community gathered together for an emotional tribute at Ellerslie Racecourse on Saturday.
