More trouble for embattled Matildas as they sink to a 20-YEAR low following horror run of defeats
The Matildas' alarming slump at international level has been highlighted by a relegation to their equal worst position in the history of the FIFA world rankings. The Australia women's team, whose three defeats in the recent SheBelieves Cup in the US followed their dismal Olympic campaign in 2024, were down another place to No.16 when the latest rankings were revealed on Thursday. It is their joint-worst spot in the rankings since they were first introduced in 2003, equalling the same position they last held two decades ago in 2005.
