Keely Hodgkinson secured her status as Team GB's golden girl by becoming only the third British woman to win the 800m as she claimed gold at the Paris Olympics. The 22-year-old dominated the final in Paris to end her wait for a first global title by beating Ethiopia's Tsige Duguma and long-term rival Kenyan runner Mary Moraa. Victory saw Hodgkinson become only the 10th British woman to win an athletics gold medal at the Olympics – and the first since Jessica Ennis-Hill in 2012, with the medal ceremony giving her the moment to celebrate the sensational success.

The party started by the Moulin Rouge and it will carry on in Marbella. Keely Hodgkinson has waited all her life for her gold-medal moment – and she is not going to miss the chance to mark it. 'I've had about 90 minutes sleep,' admitted the bleary-eyed Brit the morning after the momentous night before. 'I didn't get to sleep until about 4:30am. I'm absolutely knackered.' Hodgkinson only left the Stade de France shortly before midnight on Monday night, such was the media interest in her following her stunning win in the Olympic 800 metres final.

Once her victory was confirmed over the loudspeaker, Khelif began celebrating by waving the index finger on her left hand.
