Bad officiating, worse judging, and Ryan Garcia's failed drug test have all clouded an up-and-down year in boxing. But despite the sport's best efforts, it's actually positioned for a strong finish in 2024. Tantalizing fall bouts include Canelo Alvarez's super middleweight title defense against Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas on September 14, as well as Anthony Joshua's London brawl with Daniel Dubois for the IBF heavyweight crown a week later.

And while Unai Emery's team were seldom at their most fluent they got the job done, as good teams do and sent supporters back down the M69 belting out their songs of celebration. Goals by Amadou Onana and Jhon Duran secured the victory, just as they did at West Ham where they won by the same scoreline on the opening weekend of the season.

All three have come against Brentford, and after Saturday's 3-1 defeat on his Southampton debut, Ramsdale will be desperate to get away from west London. Sean Dyche's side outplayed their opponents for 87 minutes and led 2-0 more than deservedly. Yet still they ended up with nothing and head into the international break without a point from three games. It will be little consolation to Dyche that Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola told him at the end the wrong team had won.
