Jalen Hurts' five turnovers falls short of NFL record. Who holds it?

With five turnovers on"Monday Night Football,"Philadelphia Eaglesquarterback Jalen Hurts helped sink his team duringa 19-16 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Chargers— and he fell just short of matching an NFL record.

The league record for turnovers by a in a single game is six, according to StatMuse. The record is shared by nine players, including two Hall of Famer quarterbacks — Peyton Manning and Kurt Warner.

Hurts almost joined the six-turnover club, in excruciating fashion.

Hurts even accomplished the rare feat offumbling twice on one play. His final turnover,an interception, came off a tipped pass at the 1-yard line and ended the game in overtime.

The final tally: four interceptions, one lost fumble and turnover trauma for a lifetime.

Remarkably, Warner had six turnovers in a single gametwice, both as a member of theArizona Cardinals. He hadthree interceptions and three lost fumbleson Sept. 28, 2008 in a 56-35 loss to theNew York Jetsand on Nov. 1, 2009 had five interceptions and one lost fumble in a 34-21 loss to theCarolina Panthers.

Manning's turnover-fest took place Nov. 11, 2007, whenhe threw six interceptionsin a 23-21 loss to theSan Diego Chargers. Cornerback Antonio Cromartie intercepted Manning three times, includinga one-handed pick.

Warner coughed up three interceptions and three fumbles Nov. 1, 2009

Rex Grossman earned a share of the record when, as quarterback for theChicago Bearson Oct. 16, 2006, he had four interceptions and two lost fumbles. Yet incredibly enough, the Bears beat the Arizona Cardinals, 24-23.

"I've never played so bad and won a game like that," Grossman said after the game. "It was unbelievable."

Surely Hurts would have liked to know that feeling.

The other players who had six turnovers in a single game are Jameis Winston, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Phillip Rivers, Gus Frerotte, Tony Romo and Chris Chandler.

Indianapolis Coltsquarterback Daniel Jones recently had a five-turnover game in a27-20loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers inWeek 9.

Eagles in danger of another late-season collapse after latest unraveling

INGLEWOOD, CA — Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith sat quietly next to each other in a somber postgame locker room after a22-19 overtime lossto theLos Angeles Chargers.

ThePhiladelphia Eagleshardly resemble the team that won Super Bowl 59 just 10 months ago. A third consecutive loss dropped Philadelphia to 8-5.

"We have won a lot of football games. Right now, we've lost three in a row,"Eaglescoach Nick Sirianni said. "I'm confident in the coaches that we have, the players that we have, the owner that we have, the front office that we have. We're built to overcome, and we know how to do that."

Sirianni confirmed reports that he had taken more of a hands-on approach with the Eagles offense in preparation for Monday night.

<p style=Week 1: Detroit Lions wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa (18) makes a catch for a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers during the fourth quarter at Lambeau Field. The play was originally ruled an incomplete pass, but the call was overturned. Despite TeSlaa's effort, the Packers won the game 27-13.

The Raiders won the game, 20-13. Week 1: New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson (3) fumbles the ball on a tackle by Washington Commanders safety Will Harris (3) during the first quarter at Northwest Stadium. It was a rough Giants debut for Wilson (17 of 37 passing for 168 yards) as the Commanders won the game, 21-6. Week 1: Fireworks go off before the NFL Kickoff Game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field. The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles opened the season with a 24-20 victory over their longtime NFC East rivals.

Saquon Barkley did top 100 rushing yards for the second time this season, but the offense was once again mostly lethargic. It's tough to glean confidence from this version of the Eagles' offense.

The Eagles haven't scored more than 21 points in a game since October. Philadelphia came into Week 14 with the 23rd-ranked passing attack and 22nd-ranked rushing offense in the league.

Hurts tossed a career-worst four interceptions versus the Chargers andproduced a nightmare five total turnoversin the overtime defeat.

"I have to find ways to lead our team to victories," Hurts said. "That's not something that's foreign to us. We are just not able to do it at the moment. That starts with me and how I play, how I lead and how I go out there and do my job. When I look at it at any point, it's about how I respond to a test. And what level of resilience and resolve I have to push forward and figure things out."

The Eagles are slightly in front of the Dallas Cowboys (6-6-1) forthe NFC East leadwith four regular-season games remaining. The Eagles' three-game losing streak is reminiscent of the team's 2023 collapse, during which they lost five of their last six regular-season games and made a quick exit in the postseason.

Yet, the silver lining is this Eagles club, despite some injuries, brought back 10 offensive starters from the Super Bowl-winning squad. Standout tackle Lane Johnson is expected to return this season. Three of their next four opponents have losing records. They control their own destiny.

"You always have to look inward and be honest with yourself, first and foremost. Take accountability and learn to fix it as quickly as possible," Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown said. "That's what we plan to do. That's what I plan to do."

Brown is correct. The Eagles' offense must "quickly" find a way to turn things around or else the season will expire quickly akin to the 2023 squad.

"A game like that definitely stings. But we can use this to either start pointing fingers and get upset, or we can make sure that doesn't break us and we come together and we just keep rolling. And I think we're going to take that side of it," Barkley said. "Everything that we want is still in front of us. That's the beauty of football. That's the beauty of having success early in the season. And now we got to get things rolling."

England's Mark Wood ruled out of Ashes series with knee injury

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Injured fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of theAshesin a major setback for an England lineup trailing 2-0 in the five-match series.

Woodhad limited impact in the first test, bowling 11 overs without taking a wicketin the eight-wicket loss in Perth. He then missed the second cricket test inBrisbanebecause of his troublesome left knee.

The 35-year-old Wood's fitness had been an issue ahead of the Ashes tour after he only recently returned followingknee surgery in March.

Matt Fisher, who made his only test appearance in the Caribbean in 2022, was drafted into the test squad as cover.

In an Instagram post, Wood said he was "gutted to be out the remainder of the Ashes. After extensive surgery and seven long, hard months of work and rehab to get back into the test arena, my knee just hasn't held up."

Wood said he traveled to Australia "with high expectations about making a big impact. I'm desperately disappointed that despite yet more injections and intensive medical treatment it has become clear that the flare up in my knee is worse than feared."

Wood was England's leading wicket-taker in the 2023 Ashes series, when his return from injury coincided with a big comeback by the home team.

England must win the third test starting Dec. 17 in Adelaide to have any chance of reclaiming the Ashes. England hasn't won a test in Australia since 2010-11, and losing Wood makes matters worse for a bowling attack that has struggled in the last month.

"I still believe we can turn things around. Never give in. Come on England," Wood posted on social media.

News of his Wood's departure was announced just hours afterAustralia confirmed veteran paceman Josh Hazlewood would miss the seriesbecause of hamstring and Achilles injuries.

Juan Orlando Hernandez presents his national statement as a part of the World Leaders' Summit at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, on November 1, 2021. - Andy Buchanan/Reuters

Honduras's attorney general said he has issued an arrest warrant for former President Juan Orlando Hernández, who was freed from US federal prison last week after being pardoned by President Donald Trump.

Attorney General Johel Antonio Zelaya Alvarez saidon XMonday that he had asked government agencies and global police agency Interpol to arrest Hernández, who is accused of money laundering and fraud.

"We have been lacerated by the tentacles of corruption and by criminal networks that have profoundly marked the life of our country," Zelaya said.

His post included a photo of the Supreme Court's arrest order which was dated Nov. 28, the same day Trump announced his intention to pardon Hernández –– a move that drew criticism from both sides of the political aisle in both the US and Honduras.

President of Honduras from 2014 until 2022, Hernández was convicted and sentenced last year to 45 years in federal prison and given an $8 million fine by a US judge for drug trafficking offenses.

Hernández's domestic charges are in connection with a massive anti-corruption investigation in Honduras known as Pandora II, a scheme that implicated top politicians, government officials and businesspeople in the country. ProsecutorsallegeHernández illegally siphoned about $2.4 million in a kickback from public contracts for his 2013 campaign.

In a statement to CNN, Hernandez's attorney Renato Stabile said Hernández's arrest warrant was a political play by Honduras's ruling Libre party – a rival of the conservative National Party he once led.

"This is obviously a strictly political move on behalf of the defeated radical left Libre party as they are being forced out of power by the people of Honduras. It is shameful and desperate piece of political theatre and these charges are completely baseless," Stabile said.

Luis Santos, the director of Honduras' Specialized Unit against Corruption Crimes, told CNN a few days ago that Hernández had "an open case in the Supreme Court of Justice for money laundering and fraud," and that an earlier international arrest warrant had been in the possession of the Ministry of Security and Interpol since September 2023.

Santos added that if Hernández did not return to Honduras, they would request his extradition from the United States.

Trumpformally pardoned Hernándezon Dec. 3, telling reporters at the White House "I feel pretty good about it," and calling the prosecution a "Biden horrible witch hunt."

The move was criticized by both Republican and Democratic members of Congress, who questioned Trump's decision to pardon someone with a drug trafficking conviction when his administration has been so focused on disrupting drug trafficking in Latin America, ramping up military activity and launchingcontroversial strikeson alleged drug boats in the Caribbean.

US prosecutors had accused Hernández of conspiring with drug cartels during his tenure as President as they moved more than 400 tons of cocaine through Honduras toward the United States. In exchange, prosecutors said, Hernández received millions of dollars in bribes that he used to fuel his political rise.

Hernández had insisted he was innocent, claiming his trial was "rigged" and that it relied on the accusations of criminals who sought revenge against him.

The former Honduran leaderthanked Trumpfor "having the courage to defend justice at a moment when a weaponized system refused to acknowledge the truth," in an X post on Wednesday.

ICEBlock developer sues Trump administration over app's removal

The developer of ICEBlock, a popular app used to share information aboutlocal sightings of federal immigration agents, sued the Trump administration on Dec. 8 for allegedly violating free speech rights afterApple removed the appfrom its online store.

Joshua Aaron, the creator of ICEBlock, claimed in a filingthat U.S. Attorney GeneralPam Bondi, Homeland Security SecretaryKristi Noem, and other administration officials made "unconstitutional threats and demands against Apple" that led to the app's removal in October.

"When we see our government doing something wrong, it's our duty as citizens of this nation to hold them accountable, and that is exactly what we're doing with this lawsuit," Aaron said, according to Reuters.

People who oppose Trump's immigration agenda or who say they want to keep immigrants and others safe have used apps and other means to track and document ICE activities and warn people who might be at risk of being detained.

Aaron said he thinks the Trump administration is not just attacking his free speech rights, but those of all citizens when it goes after apps like ICEBlock, and that he hoped his lawsuit would help stop the administration "from eroding the Constitution."

Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told Reuters that assaults and death threats against federal immigration agents have surged since it increased operations to arrest and deport those who are illegally in the country.

"But, of course, the media spins this correct decision for Apple to remove these apps as them caving to pressure instead of preventing further bloodshed and stopping law enforcement from getting killed," McLaughlin said.

The U.S. Attorney General's Office, DHS, and Apple did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's requests for comment on Dec. 8.

'Scheme of state censorship'

The Trump administration has condemned ICE tracking apps, saying they could lead to increased assaults on immigration agents carrying out the federal government's deportation campaign. The lawsuit rebuffs that claim, stating that data collected was removed four hours after an ICE sighting and that the app's design "ensures it can only be used for informational purposes."

"Fundamentally, ICEBlock neither enables nor encourages confrontation — it simply delivers time-limited location information to help users stay aware of their surroundings in a responsible and nonviolent way," the complaint reads.

In July, PresidentDonald Trumpsaid he was exploring prosecuting CNN after themedia outlet reported on ICEBlock. The lawsuit claims the defendants "launched a coordinated campaign of retaliation" against Aaron and laid out a pattern of criticism the app faced following CNN's coverage.

"Bondi's demand to Apple to remove ICEBlock from the App store, as well as her viewpoint-based criticism of CNN for publicizing the app, constitute a 'scheme of state censorship,'" the complaint reads.

The app had more than 1 million users at the time of its removal, the lawsuit states.

"Growing up in a Jewish household, I learned from history about the consequences of staying silent in the face of tyranny," Aaron said in a statement provided to USA TODAY. "I will never back down from resisting the Trump Administration's targeting of immigrants and conscripting corporations into its unconstitutional agenda."

Immigration raids in NOLA:Federal agents launch enforcement operation in New Orleans

Legal experts: Surveillance of agents largely protected under the Constitution

The app, which is still functioning for people who downloaded it before its removal from app stores, allows users to report publicly observable activity of federal immigration agents and their locations. Aaron, in his lawsuit, argues that the function is similar to what mapping apps like Waze and others do when they allow users to report the locations of police.

The lawsuit says Aaron submitted the app to Apple for approval, and that it had been available through the company's app store since April of this year, before being removed. Legal experts told Reuters that surveillance of immigration agents is largely protected under the U.S. Constitution, as long as people don't interfere with the agents' work or encourage others to do so.

Courts have long held that recording law enforcement activities in public areas is legal.

The suit cites a message Apple sent to Aaron that said "information provided to Apple by law enforcement" showed that his app violated the company's guidelines "because its purpose is to provide location information about law enforcement officers that can be used to harm such officers individually or as a group."

The lawsuit asked the court to stop the defendants from "coercing, threatening, or demanding Apple or other app distribution services in order to stop distribution of the App" and "threatening, investigating, or prosecuting Aaron."

"If we allow community sharing of information to be silenced, our democracy will fail. The United States will be no different than China or Russia," Deirdre von Dornum, Lead Counsel representing Aaron, said in a statement provided to USA TODAY.
