Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster accidentally went a little method while filming The Silence of the Lambs.

Don't worry, the duo didn't get up to anything too nefarious on the set of the iconic 1991 thriller, but much like their characters Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling, the actors had some trepidation about the person on the other side of the glass. Hopkins recounted his unusual relationship with costar Jodie Foster — and his immediate connection to Hannibal Lecter — in his new book, We Did OK, Kid: A Memoir, shared an excerpt by The Sunday Times.

"I knew the character instantly. I instinctively sensed how to play Hannibal," Hopkins wrote of the iconic villain. "I have the devil in me. We all have the devil in us. I know what scares people."

When the time came for the first table read, Hopkins leaned into those devilish instincts. Unfortunately, he "didn't get a chance" to chat with Foster beforehand, so her very first impression of him was in character, embracing the personality of the fictional serial killer.

"We just flew right into it," Hopkins recalled. "I wanted to show what I could do, so I was as scary as I could be. You could have heard a pin drop in the room. A couple of seconds after I started to speak as Lecter, I saw Jodie grow tense."

The thriller, based on Thomas Harris's 1988 bestseller, sees Hopkins play brilliant psychiatrist and psychotic cannibal Hannibal Lecter, who has been locked up in an institution for the criminally insane. That's where FBI trainee Clarice comes in, visiting the institution to interview Lecter in the hopes of gaining insight into another serial killer known as Buffalo Bill.

"[Foster and I] mostly kept away from each other," Hopkins wrote. "Then, on our last day of shooting, we had lunch. It was freezing cold in Pittsburgh. Jodie put down her sandwich and said she had to confess something: she'd been scared of me."

Hopkins replied that he was scared of her, too, and the duo laughed it off.

"We had a big hug, and we both admitted to feeling a strange sense of distance during the shoot, due no doubt to the power of that script, which had us playing a cat-and-mouse game," he recalled. "Since then, we've always greeted each other with great warmth."

All of that terrifying energy paid off in the end. The Silence of the Lambs was a sleeper hit, grossing more than $270 million worldwide and winning big at the Academy Awards. It remains the only horror film to have won Best Picture, and also snagged Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor for Hopkins, and Best Actress for Foster.

As for Foster's side of the story, she previously discussed being afraid of Hopkins during a 2019 Masterclass at SXSW, explaining that many of the techniques used by director Jonathan Demme enhanced the fear that they felt of one another.

"The movie didn't scare me, but Anthony Hopkins scared me," Foster shared. "You'll notice, if you look at the movie again...instead of the person looking at the person off-screen, that the actors are actually looking down the lens. And that means I am there, but way behind the camera, and I'm just a voice; he can't see me. And the same is true on my side."

She continued, "So when I'm doing scenes with Dr. Lecter, I just hear this disembodied, scary voice, but I don't actually see his face. I have to look into the camera and pretend that he's in the camera."

Foster also pointed out that they were kept physically apart by the set design, explaining that it took 20 minutes to get Hopkins in and out of the complicated bars-and-glass setup protecting Clarice from Hannibal. Fans of the movie know that those bars could hold Hannibal back for only so long, as well.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2025 World Series, but Fox also hit a home run.

The seventh game of the annual Major League Baseball classic, which saw the Dodgers triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays 5 to 4 in extra innings won an average audience of nearly 26 million across Fox, Fox Deportes and Fox-owned streaming services, according to early data from Nielsen. A fuller picture of viewership for the Series' final game will emerge on Tuesday, when more data is tabulated.

The telecast was the most-watched Game 7 in the World Series since 2017, when nearly 28.3 million viewers tuned in for the final showdown between the Dodgers and the Houston Astros. Houston won the game and the tournament. Viewership for Saturday's telecast on Fox was up 10% over the most recent Game 7, in 2019, when nearly 23.3 million viewers watched the Washington Nationals defeat the Astros.

According to Nielsen, viewership for Saturday's Game 7 on Fox peaked at about 31.5 million viewers between 11:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. eastern

The numbers represent a grand slam of sorts for MLB. The league is in the midst of awarding a package of games previously earmarked for ESPN to new partners. NBC Sports is expected to pick up the bulk of ESPN's Sunday games, according to two people with knowledge of negotiations, while Netflix has been in talks for rights to the 2026 Opening Day game as well as the annual Home Run Derby. ESPN, meanwhile, has been jockeying for a new set of rights that would give it the ability to stream out-of-market games as well as five teams in-market packages.

ESPN opted out early of its current rights deal with MLB, citing other deals the league has with digital companies that executives at the Disney sports giant feel undermine the value of the $550 million contract.

Indeed, viewership for Saturday's Game 7 telecast are 53% better than the Game 7 of the most recent NBA Finals, which were telecast on ABC, and won an average of about 16.6 million viewers.

NEW YORK (AP) — Ciara, Foreigner, Lil Jon, Kool & the Gang, Busta Rhymes, Mickey Guyton and Teyana Taylor will feature in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which will also cement "KPop Demon Hunters" as a pop culture phenomenon with appearances by the movie's singers on the ground and cute characters in balloons overhead.

An eclectic group of stars — from ballet dancer Tiler Peck to YouTube's "Hot Ones" host Sean Evans — will join the annual holiday kick-off, highlighted by Audrey Nuna, EJAE and Rei Ami of HUNTR/X, the fictional girl group at the heart of the Netflix K-pop hit.

The trio are behind the film's soundtrack, which hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and recently went platinum. Two characters from the movie — Derpy Tiger and Sussie — will join the parade lineup as a mid-sized balloon and the adorably named balloonicle.

The parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 27 in all time zones and will feature 32 balloons, three ballonicles, 27 floats, 33 clown groups and 11 marching bands — all leading the way for Santa Claus. The familiar TV hosts — Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker from the "Today" show — will return on NBC and Peacock. More stars will be announced later.

Broadway, Buzz Lightyear and Debbie Gibson

Broadway will be represented by cast members from "Buena Vista Social Club," "Just in Time" and "Ragtime," while the Radio City Rockettes will be there and some serious athletes — three-time U.S. national champion figure skater Ilia Malinin and U.S Paralympian Jack Wallace.

Every year, spectators line-up a half-dozen deep along the route to cheer the floats, entertainers and marching bands. Last year, more than 31 million people tuned in on NBC and Peacock, up 10% from the previous year and marking the biggest audience ever for the parade.

This year, four new featured character balloons will debut, including Buzz Lightyear, Pac-Man, Mario from Super Mario Brothers and a 32-foot-tall (9.8-meter) balloon onion carriage featuring eight characters from the world of "Shrek."

Ahead of next year's 100th anniversary of the parade, organizers are also including balloons from previous marches, including Rainbow trout, the Happy Hippo Triple Stack, Wigglefoot and Freida the Dachshund.

Six new floats will also debut this year, including from Holland America Line, Lego, Lindt chocolates, "Stranger Things" and a bunch of whimsical sheep trying to get to sleep courtesy of Serta.

Some of the stars on hand will be Debbie Gibson, Drew Baldridge, Matteo Bocelli, Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, Meg Donnelly, Christopher Jackson, Darlene Love, Roman Mejia, Taylor Momsen, Calum Scott, Shaggy, Lauren Spencer Smith and Luísa Sonza.

The marching bands will hail from South Carolina, California, Texas, Arizona, New Hampshire, Mississippi, Alabama, Pennsylvania and Santiago, Panama. The New York Police Department's marching band will also join.

The time has finally come for Dorothy Gale to ease on down the Yellow Brick Road.

When *Wicked: For Good* arrives in December, it will conclude the story of Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), the witches whose friendship changed Oz for good. And as anyone who's seen *The Wizard of Oz *already knows, that ending isn't possible without Dorothy, her clicking heels and a bucket of water. But that certainly doesn't mean the musical will retread ground already covered in the classic tale — which is why director Jon M. Chu is taking a different approach to Dorothy's side of the story.

While the Kansas farm girl *will* appear in the musical movie, Chu says that audience will never actually see her face.

Wicked: For Good | Final Trailer

Universal Pictures/YouTube

"I didn't want to step on who you think Dorothy is in whatever story that you came into this with," Chu explained in PEOPLE's *Wicked: For Good *special issue. He added that while the story still directly intersects with Dorothy's tale in *Wizard of Oz*, it was important to emphasize that the musical two-parter "is still Elphaba and Glinda's journey, and she is a pawn in the middle of all of it."

In truth, this approach to Dorothy will see her feature more heavily in* For Good* than she does in the *Wicked* stage show. The Broadway production only sees Dorothy appear in shadowed silhouettes and though she is frequently mentioned in the second act, she largely exists offstage. But the trailer for *Wicked: For Good* has already hinted at more time spent on Dorothy, who is glimpsed standing side-by-side with her iconic entourage: the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion.

Additionally, Grande has teased a complicated relationship between Glinda and the rainbow-chasing farmgirl. Last month, she told *Empire* that although the Good Witch offers Dorothy advice after she crash-lands in Oz and even points her in the direction of the Wizard, she doesn't exactly give her the most direct route to safety.

"I love the little bit of shadiness that Glinda has towards Dorothy," Grande said. "There's a lot going on, and she doesn't really have time to deal with this. She could have told her to take the Emerald City train! But she didn't. That's a little shady, Glinda! So I leaned all the way into Glinda sort of having an eye roll for Dorothy whenever she has to deal with her."

Adapting the second act of the stage play, *Wicked: For Good* sees Elphaba transform into the Wicked Witch of the West as she is vilified by the citizens of Oz, forcing her to live alone in exile. Meanwhile, Glinda enjoys the perks of fame and popularity as the Good Witch of the North — but isn't yet ready to give up on her relationship with Elphaba.

Chu previously cautioned ** that the finale will be significantly more emotionally taxing than the first film, sharing, "If Part 1 is about choices, Part 2 is about consequences. Choices are difficult to make, but when you do make those choices, sometimes the result isn't what you expect it to be."

*Wicked: For Good* flies into theaters Nov. 21.**

Turns out Diane Lane felt like a bit of an outsider while filming *The Outsiders*.**

The actress explained on Wednesday's episode of *The Drew Barrymore Show* why she chose to put some space between her and her up-and-coming male costars — Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Ralph Macchio, C. Thomas Howell, Patrick Swayze, and Matt Dillon — while shooting the 1983 film adaptation of S.E. Hinton's celebrated coming-of-age novel.

"What was it like to be with literally every single young man who would become the biggest male movie stars?" host Drew Barrymore asked her. To which Lane replied, "It was hot! It was great."**

That is, to a certain extent. "It was kind of… too much testosterone for one girl," she admitted. "So I kept to myself. But I was definitely pinching myself. I was definitely overwhelmed."

Barrymore could easily see why Lane would feel that way with so many handsome actors on set. "I think that was the movie that made me realize like, 'I like boys,'" she said. "I was like, 'Oh wow, I get it now.'"**

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, *The Outsiders* chronicles the growing tension between two rival gangs: the working-class Greasers and the rich Socials, or Socs for short. When young Ponyboy Curtis (Howell) befriends Lane's character, Cherry, one night at the drive-in, he sets off a chain reaction that leads to unspeakable tragedy for both groups.

While visiting *The Drew Barrymore Show*, Lane also recalled her extra-sweet experience shooting the drive-in scene with Howell. **

"I remember when we were at the movie theater and they were creating this windstorm," she said. "They had these big huge fans and they were throwing cocoa powder to make the dust so it wouldn't be toxic or get in our eyes."

The powder also happened to make one pretty excellent snack in between takes. "By the end of the night we would just be, like, white striping," Lane said as she pretended to lick her hands, wipe them across her face, and then eat the imaginary cocoa. "Like, 'Mmm! That's good!' We all looked tan and sweet."

Lane isn't the only member of the *Outsiders* cast who has reflected on the film in recent years. In February 2024, Coppola shared footage of her, Dillon, Macchio, Cruise, Lowe, Howell, and Swayze's auditions on social media in honor of its 42nd anniversary. **

"Forty-two years ago, we cast *The Outsiders* in a unique way," Coppola wrote. "We had all the actors together on a soundstage and would alternate different actors reading for different roles."**

The filmmaker noted that the process could have gone off the rails "because each of them was watching their competition." He continued, "So while it could've been a volatile situation, it turned into a very positive one."**

It was through that experience that "there emerged the natural respect and sense of colleagueship among them," he said. "The result worked beautifully and reminded me of my days as a camp counselor."**

*The Drew Barrymore Show* airs weekdays on CBS.

Playing a high-powered CEO who may also be an undercover alien is tough work.

Just ask Emma Stone, who plays such a character in director Yorgos Lanthimos' *Bugonia*. In the absurdist black comedy, Stone stars as Michelle Fuller, the powerful CEO of pharmaceutical company Auxolith, who is kidnapped by Teddy (Jesse Plemons), a conspiracy theorist convinced that Michelle is really an Andromedan — an extraterrestrial sent to Earth to destroy it.

After ambushing Fuller at her mansion, Teddy and his accomplice/cousin Don (Aidan Delbis) knock her unconscious with a tranquilizer and load her into the backseat of her own car. But before they can drive her back to their home and chain her up in the basement, they have to shave off her hair, which they believe is really a communication device she can use to contact her mothership. So, Don handles the electric clippers in the backseat while Teddy speeds away from the crime scene.

Asked what was going through her mind as her costar removed her signature red locks, Stone tells **, "Stay still. That was it. I was meditating on stay still, just stay still."

Since the scene had to be filmed in one take, the star says she was "so afraid" that she'd accidentally ruin the moment by opening her eyes or flinching. "Because I am not awake there, I was like, play dead, basically, play dead," she says.

If anything went wrong with the take, Stone says there was no backup plan. "It was one take and there were four cameras set up just to make sure," she says. Luckily, they got the moment in one shot, and Lanthimos credits his star with being on board with the major makeover from the beginning.

"Not difficult at all, really," he says when asked if it was hard convincing Stone to shave her head. "I mean, it was in the script, so I didn't even have to tell her. She read it first, and she had the slightest hesitation just before, not hesitation to do it, but she had kind of a knot in her stomach. But it happened. Thankfully, we did it. We only had one shot to achieve it. And then she felt great. She saw herself and she really loved it, and she felt very free."

Emma Stone reveals which celebrity she thinks is secretly an alien: 'Obviously!'

In fact, Lanthimos thought his star looked so "amazing" with the new 'do, he even tried to convince her to keep it. "But she wouldn't have it," he says. "She had enough of [dealing with] months of having to also hide her head while we were filming."

Still, a shaved head wasn't the only obstacle Stone had to deal with thanks to Teddy's bizarre beliefs. After removing Fuller's "communication device," her kidnapper next endeavors to dull her alien powers by... regularly applying thick layers of lotion over her body.

"It was a combination of [creams] and there were many tests of all different ones because it goes through all different layers," Stone explains of the process. "And turns out human skin hovers around 98.6 degrees, and that's a melting point for a lot of creams. So making that stuff last all day — tricky. The pores take it in, it thins out. So it was a combination of things, depending on the day, different foundations, moisturizers. It was a fun test, though."

Stone credits hair and make-up designer Torsten Witte with doing "God's work" in nailing the concoction, which she had to slather on every day for "months." "Until it transitioned to blood," she teases. "Yeah. It was either cream or blood."

Physical discomforts aside, Stone says she was immediately fascinated by her character. "It feels truly like [Teddy and Michelle] are two heroes unto themselves that are both here to save the world in completely different ways and from completely different backgrounds clearly, and from totally different viewpoints that have this tension against each other, but could really teach each other a couple of things potentially if they were able to hear each other or if it was a circumstance that wasn't so kidnap-y," she says.

"I found her so fascinating because she's sort of glaze-y, everything's lovely and everything's fine, but it's all just an empty word salad-y exercise," she continues. "It is always interesting to me to hear people who are the heads of these companies that are like, We need to say this specific set of things. And her using those tactics to then negotiate with Teddy in this really intense situation in a basement – I found it really, really funny and sad, and it was just true in so many ways."**

For a time, Jeremy Allen White became Bruce Springsteen. But that doesn't mean they share every opinion.

The actor* *recently reflected on stepping into the shoes of the legendary rocker to lead *Springsteen:* *Deliver Me From Nowhere*, his first big film since breaking out on the culinary drama *The Bear.* White told IMDb that, for the most part, he got along with Springsteen swimmingly. But diving into the details of the album at the film's center — the introspective 1982 classic *Nebraska* — revealed a critical divergence point between the two.

"I had dinner at home with him and his wife, [Patti Scialfa], before we started filming. We got to talk about his music, and more specifically, we spoke a lot about 'Reason to Believe.' What I take away from that song, and what he thinks people misunderstand about that song," White explained. "I believed that there was hope in that song, and he said, 'That's not the case.'"

White recalled pleading his case, proposing to Springsteen, "'Don't you feel that when you're writing a song, you're kind of giving it up?' And he said, 'I guess you're right. If you want to feel that way, you can feel that way. But that's not how that was intended.'"

"Reason to Believe" closes out *Nebraska*, a deeply personal, introspective album that Springsteen recorded by himself while living in isolated Colts Neck, N.J. The song channels one of Springsteen's primary cited inspirations for the album, the short stories of Flannery O'Connor, in its own braiding together of four short vignettes on the theme of endurance in the face of adversity.

A woman waiting for a man who will never come, a groom waiting for a bride who won't marry him, a dead dog moldering on the side of a highway beneath a man's contemplative gaze — "Reason to Believe" is often interpreted as speculating how each character in the vignettes, well, finds a reason to keep believing. But according to the song's very own author, the weary search for reasons is more the point than the restoration of belief.

Why Bruce Springsteen biopic is about 'Nebraska' instead of 'Born in the U.S.A.'

*Deliver Me From Nowhere *was adapted from Warren Zanes' 2023 book of the same name, which chronicles the making of *Nebraska*.

In a September interview with **, writer-director Scott Cooper shed some light on why, at that particular time in his life, Springsteen may have been more attracted to the dark than the light. "It wasn't about Bruce Springsteen, the icon and stadium-filling rock star," he shared*.* "It was about Bruce alone in a rented house, trying to understand himself and his unresolved trauma through song... I saw a cinematic portrait of an artist who was willing to strip himself bare."

*Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere *is currently in theaters.****
