AN AMERICAN doctor has tragically died in hospital after he was struck by a van in a crash in a Scottish city.
Emergency crews raced to the scene on Trinity Crescent in Edinburgh at around 5.50pm on Wednesday, April 10.
The fatal crash happened on Trinity Crescent in Edinburgh[/caption]A 58-year-old man was rushed Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after he was hit by a white Citroen Relay van.
The man was a pedestrian at the time of the collision.
But he tragically died as a result of his injuries in hospital yesterday evening.
Police have now confirmed that the man can be named as Doctor William Noel from Philadelphia.
His family have asked for privacy during this difficult time.
The driver of the van, a 40-year-old man, was arrested by police.
He has been released pending further enquiries.
Cops have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the crash to get in touch.
Those with dash cam footage are also being urged to contact police.
A statement from Police Scotland said: "A 58-year-old man has died in hospital following a collision involving a van in Edinburgh on Wednesday, 10 April, 2024.

"The man can be named as Doctor William Noel from Philadelphia in the USA. His family has asked for privacy.
"Mr Noel was a pedestrian at the time of the collision, which happened on Trinity Crescent around 5.50pm, and also involved a white Citroen Relay van.
"He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died as a result of his injuries during the evening of Monday, 29 April.
"The driver of the van, a 40-year-old man, was arrested and released pending further enquiries.
"Officers have previously appealed for a female nurse who came to Dr Noel's aid but left prior to police arrival to come forward. She has now been identified and has assisted with our enquiries.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 2772 of 10 April."
