About Our Ads Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Katlyn Cerminara met the media Saturday after her win over Mackenzie Stiller at UFC Fight Night 291.
Cerminara (19-6 MMA, 12-6 UFC) returned from a lengthy layoff and took out Stiller (6-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a first-round TKO on the prelims at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. It was her first fight in more than 2.5 years.
Cerminara's layoff was in part because she became a first-time mother. She said the importance of her family played a big role in her win – which was her first since May 2022, as well as her first stoppage win in 18 UFC fights, and just the fourth finish in her pro career.
"I feel amazing. It's weird – it's my first finish in the UFC and I've had a million fights. I feel like I should be more excited, but it's also a sense of I envisioned this and I knew it was going to happen. … I felt the same as before. I didn't feel like it was a long layoff when I'm trainign – and I just trained so good every time. I felt amazing. It was also my first time with a new camp, and from Day One, I just felt so good and I felt so confident that I was just hoping I could show that in the fight – and I did exactly that."
"I always knew I had these abilities. I just didn't get to show it. I think there's been a little bit of a confidence issue, and maybe a little nervous to take risks in fights. I just trained every day like this is my fight, I'm losing, and I have to win. Now I have a daughter. My whole life is, I have everything I want, so who cares – put everything out there, and at the end of the day, I have the perfect family. That makes it a little bit easier, too."
