Patrick Mahomes Sr. has been cleared to attend upcoming Kansas City Chiefs games to cheer on his quarterback son.

A judge in Texas approved the former MLB pitcher’s request for permission to travel outside of the state amid his ongoing probation status following a 2024 DWI arrest, according to court documents obtained by TMZ and PEOPLE’s review of court records.

Last month, Mahomes Sr., filed a motion in Smith County, Texas asking to travel to Kansas City, Las Vegas and Cincinnati for Chiefs games.

A judge signed off on Mahomes Sr., 56, attending games at Arrowhead Stadium, but denied the request for him to travel to an upcoming December game in Cincinnati, per TMZ. (The motion was submitted prior to the Chiefs-Raiders game last week.)

Mahomes Sr. was arrested on the DWI charge, his third, six months before, after registering a blood alcohol content of 0.23 when an officer pulled him over in Tyler, Texas.

The arrest came just days before his son led the Kansas City Chiefs to a consecutive Super Bowl victory.

In February of this year, he was arrested again and booked into the Smith County Jail for allegedly consuming alcohol during his probation, Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman told KLTV at the time.

The Chiefs star has spoken before about the impact of his father’s arrests.

“It was during that Super Bowl. It became a story, and so, I had to answer questions about it. I think just knowing that it hurt me woke him up to know that like, you can’t keep doing the same things,” the signal-caller said on the ESPN original series Chiefs Kingdom.

“For him to have to answer questions about me was probably the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever been through in my life,” Mahomes Sr. said in the episode. “I called him right after and I told him, I said, ‘I’m sorry that it’s taking away from your time and taking away from your focus.’ ”
