A physique recovered from the River Thames last month is believed to be that of lacking SOAS University scholar Samaria Ayanle, the Metropolitan Police has stated.

Ayanle, 19, was final seen at her accommodation, Nutford House, close to Marble Arch in the early hours of February 22.

Solely hours later, officers acquired stories of a physique on the north foreshore near Putney Pier about 5 miles southwest.

At the time, no missing individual reviews matched the recovered physique. Detectives uploaded her particulars to the UK Lacking Persons database in a bid to help give her identify back.

Ayanle was reported missing by university employees on March 8.

'After Samaria was reported missing officers linked their enquiries to the 22 February discovery on Wednesday, 13 March,' police stated in a press release yesterday.

'They've seen body-worn video from then and consider the individual found is Samaria. Formal identification awaits.

'Samaria's dying is being handled as unexplained, pending further enquiries.'

SOAS stated in a press release: 'We are deeply saddened to hear that police have discovered a physique which is believed to be that of Samaria Ayanle, who was a first-year scholar at SOAS College of London, learning for a BA in Japanese and the Historical past of Art.

'Our ideas are together with her household, loved ones and buddies at this troublesome time.

'We know that this news might be felt by many and we shall be doing all the things we will to help buddies, family and the wider scholar and employees group.'
