BUNGLING welfare chiefs paid more than £230,000 in handouts to prisoners in a yr — and only acquired 14 per cent of it back.

John O'Connell, of the TaxPayers' Alliance, stated: "Taxpayers can be furious about these bungled advantages funds."
The DWP stated: "Fraud and error in the system stays low, over 95 per cent of advantages are paid appropriately.
"The amount overpaid to prisoners is a tiny fraction, representing 0.0001 per cent of profit spend."
