A once-in-a-250-year weather event is about to hit the UK, bringing with it bitter winter temperatures.
A Sudden Stratospheric Warning (SSW) event often strikes every two prolonged winters.
However this yr the UK might see an 'extremely rare' trio of them.
Professor Adam Scaife, head of long-range forecasting at the Met Office, stated: 'Although we have now not seen it before, we just lately documented the probabilities of an unprecedented three SSW events occurring in one winter.

The prospect of cold and dry climate will increase and 70% of SSW occurrences are linked to chilly snaps.

The Met Office defined when the SSW rises, the traditional westerly airflow above the environment makes the jet stream meander extra.
